Eligibility for Federal Financial Aid?
Most students are eligible to
receive financial aid from the federal government to help pay for college,
career or trade schools.
- Possess a U.S. or foreign high school
diploma or equivalent.
- Accepted for enrollment as a regular
student in an eligible degree or certificate program.
- Have a valid Social Security
number
- Unless you are from the Republic
of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, or the Republic of
Palau.
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent
resident (green card).
- Eligible Noncitizens must have an
Arrival-Departure Record (I-94) from
U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services (USCIS) showing one of the following
status categories:
- Refugee
- Asylum Granted
- Conditional Permanent Resident
- Cuban-Haitian Entrant
- Conditional Entrant (valid only if
issued before April 1, 1980)
- Parolee (you must be paroled for
at least one year, and you must be able to provide evidence from the USCIS that
you are in the United States for other than a temporary purpose with the intention
of becoming a U.S. citizen or permanent resident)
- Modified parole requirements for
- Ukrainian citizens and nationals
paroled into the United States between Feb. 24, 2022, and Sept. 30, 2023
- Afghan citizens and nationals
paroled into the United States between July 31, 2021, and Sept. 30, 2023
- Have “Battered Immigrant Status”
- You are designated as a “battered
immigrant-qualified alien” if you are a victim of abuse by your citizen or
permanent resident spouse, or you are the child of a person designated as such
under the Violence Against Women Act.
- Have a T-Visa or a parent with a
T-Visa
- Provide consent and approval to
have your federal tax information transferred directly into your Free Application
for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®)
form.
